Substituting Oil

I know that in some recipes you can use applesauce instead of oil; does this work in all recipes, or just certain ones?  I have a pancake recipe that calls for oil, and I was hoping to replace it with applesauce.  Would this work, or would it ruin the pancakes?  Thanks!

Re: Substituting Oil

From a personal point of view it can't hurt to try it.  Make a 1/2 recipe and see if it turns out ok.
Maybe try it with half the oil and half applesauce or banana. (any puree of fruit works, I use banana almost all the time when substituting.)
Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

Re: Substituting Oil

ohio_cook, did you try it? I was just wondering ,because the oil is to help keep the pancakes from sticking also.

Re: Substituting Oil

Sorry, I haven't tried it yet Sad  I thought I was going to make pancakes on Saturday but it turned out I didn't have the time.  Thanks for the tips, though!  I'll tell you how it turned out once I do get a chance to try it!

Re: Substituting Oil

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!  I just tried using applesauce in my pancakes instead of oil this morning, and although the pancakes browned a bit quicker than usual (that might have been using the applesauce and it might have been using a new pan) they turned out delicious, plus healthier!  Thanks for the tips!
